As we accelerate through spring and into the end of the school year, we’re excited for lots of things coming up, including …
Transects & Deviations
A public lecture presentation and celebration of Math & Science Education (and our graduates!)

Weber State University’s Hurst Center

Please join us for the annual CSME invited lecture and celebration of All Things science and math, teaching and learning, curiosity and wonder. We’re delighted to have Dr. Andrea Easter-Pilcher as our celebrated presenter, one who is equally good handling grizzly bears and university faculty — though I’ve only seen evidence of her using tranquilizers on the bears.
This is a public lecture, free and welcoming to all. We invited Andrea because of her ability to relate science and empathize with humans, and we wanted to honor her for her support of CSME and teachers.
Please share widely and join us on April 17th at the Hurst Center on Weber State’s campus. At the beginning of this event, we’ll honor graduates in math and science teaching, people who you may be working with in the coming year. We’re excited to celebrate them and introduce them to you.
Teacher Twilight recap
At our last Teacher Twilight in March, I got to share some of the phenomena and tasks that connect me to science. One of those is the setting sun, particularly how it lines up with our east-west aligned streets. This was my view of the sunset looking west on 36th. It was right at the spring equinox, so this alignment is especially interesting to me:

Upcoming Arts Learning
We have it on good authority that this “Glimpse into the Forest” science/arts integration webinar will feature great presenters and resources:
Visit weber.edu/artslearning for more information and a link to RSVP and join online on April 10th. It features some of our favorite botanists!
Speaking of botanists …
Rooting Plants
This summer, Weber State’s Botany program is offering its workshop, "Rooting Plants in Utah K-12 Curriculum," June 10th and 11th.
This is a paid two-day workshop to introduce educators to the multiple ways botany can be incorporated into classrooms. It includes opportunities to engage with existing plant biology activities and to collaborate with WSU Botanists and peers, educators to discover ways to bring hands-on engaging plant biology activities into classrooms. It provides a free lunch each day and a $250 stipend!
And more this summer …
