Welcome to March. Weber State already celebrated its “spring break” (even though spring hasn’t arrived) and now heads into the second half of “spring” semester.
Teacher Twilight
Practice and Place in Science and Math Education
Our Director was dared or encouraged or something, so Adam himself will host this Teacher Twilight. He’s been excited about this one for a while, so we hope you’ll join us. Geared towards all levels and all students, we want to dig into what it means to do math and science in places and contexts that are relevant to our learners. Thursday March 20th, 4:30 in Tracy Hall 102.
Here’s the flier and another link to sign up. There’s food and good company, too.
Save the date!
In April, we’ll close out our Teacher Twilight season with a special celebration of our graduates and our annual evening lecture by Dr. Andrea Easter-Pilcher, outgoing dean of our College of Science and a celebrated wildlife biologist. Mark your calendars for the evening of April 17 for this grand event.
Spring breaks and alignments
During Weber State’s spring break, science and math teachers-to-be headed to Blanding, San Juan School District, and the national monuments of Bears Ears and Natural Bridges to expand horizons. Of course it snowed. But also there were great connections with teachers in the present and learning a little from traditions of old. Here’s a few snapshots.
Now that we’re back, spring events are taking place on the astronomical scale. Adam wrote about the upcoming lunar eclipse and equinox in his monthly column in the Standard Examiner. (He has an assignment to write each month, but it isn’t always as exciting as astronomy.)
And more art!
Our Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts friends on the other side of campus are hosting another workshop, “A Glimpse Into the Forest” on April 10, the Thursday before our final event of the year. We have it on good authority that there will be good science and some of our favorite scientists participating. Take a look here for more information.
Looking forward to summer
Stay tuned for more advertising of summer courses. These include:
Advanced Lab for Physics Teachers (June 2-6)
Elementary Science Endorsement cohort summer coursework (June 9-13)
“3D Science” course for inservice teachers (June 16-20)
Secondary Science Teaching Methods for inservice teachers (June 23-27)
Modeling in Chemistry (July 21 - August 1)
More details will follow, but feel free to reach out if you have specific questions in the meantime.
Until next time … but don’t forget to sign up for Teacher Twilight on Thursday March 20th, 4:30 in Tracy Hall 102.
